Welcome back to Training Chats with Aloha Athletics! In this episode, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Greg, the visionary race director of the Alabama 650 and founder of Last Paddler Standing. As a paddler, ultra-runner, and adventure travel leader through his company Roam Projects, Greg is no stranger to pushing boundaries. He’s also the mastermind behind the Bureau of Endurance Racing, further cementing his impact in the endurance sports world.
We dove into everything that makes Last Paddler Standing one of the most unique endurance events in the world, from its backyard-style format to the non-stop live stream coverage that keeps spectators on the edge of their seats. Whether you’re a seasoned competitor or someone dreaming of tackling an endurance event, this episode is packed with insights, inspiration, and plenty of behind-the-scenes details.
Greg kicked things off by sharing the origins of Last Paddler Standing, which was inspired by the backyard ultra-running format. He explained how the race challenges competitors to outlast one another, lap by lap, pushing both their physical and mental limits.
Reflecting on the past two years, Greg recounted some of the race’s most memorable moments, including incredible performances that captivated both participants and viewers. He also offered a preview of this year’s event, sharing his excitement and a few bold predictions for what’s to come.
One of the unique aspects of Last Paddler Standing is its commitment to free, 24/7 live stream coverage. Greg explained his decision to keep access open for fans worldwide, a stark contrast to other major endurance events that have moved toward paid streaming models. This year’s live stream promises to be even better, with a few exciting updates for viewers.
The 2024 Last Paddler Standing race is coming up later this month! Tune into the free live stream to watch the world’s best paddlers push themselves to the limit.
